in response to the conquistador's clunker...

let's get real here. care sales are down on used cars because people just aren't buying. NOT because the turned in cars are being junked. trust me, as someone who is currently looking at replacing our two new cars with two used ones, i've come across some awesome deals and there are tons of cars out there. i've been able to find pretty much any car i could possibly want. the lots are filled at the dealerships. the "mom and pop" used places may be seeing their inventory shrinking, but it is just a temporary thing until the program ends. those used car dealers probably lost their sales because they were price gouging and raising prices because they knew people would start buying more used due to the current fragile economy.

new car sales are up, manufacturing jobs are saved, we use less gas with more efficient cars, the environment benefits. the positives definitely out weigh the negatives in this scenario.

so the only ones truly affected by the cash for clunkers program is the used car salesman? i just see it as payback for all those annoying tv ads we've been forced to endure throughout the years.

nice try conquistador.

  1. I agree with everything you just said. The program was an actual "stimulus". Cleaner, safer cars are more abundant. Money exchanged hands. Credit was extended. All good things. Now, if the government would only pay the dealerships that sold all those cars... Oops. Gee, the government not fulfilling promises, underestimating costs, not foreseeing unintended consequences, running out of money, canceling programs long before they thought they would, being inefficient in its administration (which is why the dealers are not getting paid - the paperwork is backing up - in the meantime dealers have to pay their bills), benefiting some while hurting just as many others after promising to benefit everyone, taking credit for something the American people did themselves (with a little help), using everyone's tax money to benefit the few, putting the environment over the needs of a human being, etc? Who would have thought? I say we let them run our healthcare, too. They did such a good job with this.
